Healing Through Writing

Posted: January 31, 2013 in Uncategorized

Back last Spring I attended Calvary’s “Women Of Hope” cancer support group. It was a huge leap of faith for me and I had no clue what I was getting into.

I found myself sitting next to a lady by the name of Joanne. As I sat there, uncomfortable at the strangers sitting around me, I remember Joanne moving closer. To be truthful, I don’t even remember how our conversation started, but within minutes we had traded stories and discovered a common bond that would unite us for months down the road. Joanne enjoyed blogging. I (as you know) enjoy blogging. Instantly we started following one another online. I remember Joanne would email me asking to “Guest Post” on her blog…we never got around to doing that for some reason.

Though I only met Joanne in-person that one time, I got to know her better through her blog and emails. We agreed that writing just became like a healing method for the both of us. It was something that we both struggled to explain, but it felt right. I remember sitting there one day during chemo, completely feeling down and plain sick, when I got that random email from Joanne. Of course she was asking me to guest post, but then she added that she was thinking and praying for me. She never said where she was or the struggles she was up against at the time. Joanne had a way of making you feel like you were the only one that mattered, regardless if you were talking in-person, over email or following her blog.

Joanne – I know you are in the presence of God right now and I sit here smiling just imagining you dancing for joy. You amaze me still through your fight with cancer for over 11 years. Your blog and emails have encouraged me greatly during my fight. Thank you for sharing your story with me and through the world on your blog. Thank you for being my blogger buddy. I am lifting your husband and kids up in prayer daily that they may find the strength to continue on like you did. Love you friend. I will see you again soon.

I will post my update in a separate posting later.
