The Awe Factor Of God

Posted: November 4, 2010 in Uncategorized

As I entered my office this morning, I didn’t even make it in the door before I started putting items away from our K-Motion program the previous night. Once I made it in, I was greeted with the cluttered, organized chaos of many events and activities going on through the books, papers, names and pictures scattered on my desk. On my to-do list there are teachers to call, families to visit, forms to complete, pages to copy, places to visit, thank-you cards to write, programs to plan, calendars to complete…oh yes, boy could I go on.

Yet, I try my hardest to start my work day off with devotions…more of a quiet time for me really…a time where I realize God is in control, I’m not and to reconnect with who I am in Him. It sets my foundation for the day. I wish I could say I do this everyday…but sometimes…especially lately, I’ve allowed this ticking time bomb in my head to run my morning. I have this thought that if I start work earlier then everything will get done. Oh yes, truly, a lie in the making. In ministry, you do get items done, but there is ALWAYS something needing to be completed. I’ve NEVER had a moment where I can put my legs up and say, “Well, I’m done. All of the families in our ministry are happy, all the kids know God and follow Him faithfully, all of my volunteers not only love their role, but are fully prepared and trained for Sunday, I’m completely confident that we are doing ministry perfectly every chance we get and we have the perfect church ever!” It sounds like a dream doesn’t it? There will always be room for improvement..thus always something to tackle.
Then, during my Quiet Time I saw this video…

Yes, I’ve seen it before. In fact, we did the entire “Crazy Love” book by Francis Chan in our small group…I loved every second. Yet, today, surrounded by the constant “go go go” that was around me, this video shouted, “STOP, STOP, STOP.” Don’t you see friends, how unique, special, creative this time, this place, this second is? For YOU were placed HERE in this vast universe, inside of a galaxy which is floating amongst a trillion of other galaxies…YOU friend were given a name, a purpose, a reality and a part to play in a story that is SOOOO much bigger than you. It’s God’s story…and as Andy Stanley points out in his book, “I Am Not But I Know I AM” we have been given a short role…and if we choose not to use what God has given us, He will find someone else to accomplish His purpose. Don’t let the AWE factor of this second pass you by. This is the day that the Lord has made…go…in the midst of your little, insignificant moment and STOP and realize that God can use your meaningless to create a storyline to change lives. Point to Your Creator…wherever you go today, make God look good.
